Sounds ludicrous, doesn’t it? VHEMT (pronounced vehement) is a movement not an organization. It's a movement advanced by people who care about all life on planet Earth including ours. Voluntary human extinction is the humanitarian alternative to human disasters. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.

Being a VHEMT volunteer is a state of mind. All you have to do to join is make the choice to refrain from further reproduction.

We are sure that at this point you are probably thinking “There are definitely more of us than there should be but should we become extinct?” This is quite a natural initial reaction. But if we follow a consistent chain of reasoning and common sense guided by a love and respect for all life then this would be the only logical alternative.

Of Brainstorming & Backwardness...

Though VHEMT is a global ideology, India is a country that needs it the most. Unlike China which has adopted an involuntary method of keeping its numbers in check, VHEMT proposes voluntary measures which does not infringe on anyone’s individual rights. But adopting a voluntary phasing out is difficult and to spread such an ideology is a tedious task.

I have done my best to reach out to the urban educated youth and have gotten a good response. That is comparatively effortless due to their basic education which provides a smooth chain of logic and reasoning. But what about those who are uneducated and who lack the basic understanding that breeding at this point of time cannot be justified? What about those too backward to understand that irresponsible breeding has caused an irreversible damage to our biosphere? How can we unbrainwash them from the centuries of false teachings of religious leaders with vested interests who preach to breed just to increase their flock?

That is the challenge. Can anyone suggest how to go about educating such masses? Any ideas are welcome.

VHEMT meet in Mumbai
I am glad to announce that a small group of VHEMT supporters in Mumbai, India are scheduled to meet on Sunday, 3rd of October 2010 at 5 pm on the Stairs opposite Bombay Blues at Kala Ghoda, Fountain, Mumbai. This is the place where the Kala Ghoda Art Festival is held. Flyers and pamphets for the same have been distributed throughout the city.

This is with a view to create awareness of the VHEMT idea and to initiate a dialogue among potential Volunteers. Since this is a Movement and not an organisation we dont have any membership fees or hierarchy. We do not have any criteria to be a Volunteer, so EVERYONE is welcome.

In case of any clarification, please address it to this blog.

In case of any specific query, please mail it to vhemt_india@rediffmail.com and we would be glad to help.
